Louis Vuitton Fall 2010

This is one of my favourite recent advertising campaigns. It was a while ago now, but I thought it was worth featuring anyway. Marc Jacobs' collection is reminiscent of the fifties and sixties with pumps trimmed with flat bows, wasp waists and circle skirts. Though cleavage was on full display, the look was kept classy with a classic, feminine silhouette; polished hair; and clean make-up. There is little variation in the silhouette, which puts the focus on the details and fabrics such as fur buttons and leather skirts. You can view the Paris Fashion Week RTW show here and here.

Deanna Durbin at the 11th Annual Academy Awards in 1938

This curly, centre-parted, shoulder-length hairstyle has been worn with a bow for a sweet take on an otherwise quite sophisticated hairstyle. You could be forgiven for thinking that these pictures were from the early 1940s...

Archive footage - Burlington Mills (Bur-Mill) rayon garments 1941

A woman from 1920 is transported through time to a clothing store in 1941 and admires the quality and style of garments made from rayon produced by Burlington Mills (Bur-Mill). The red dress she wears is gorgeous, and I love all the accessories and hairstyles.
